After two years of rigorously prototyping the Cat 777C autonomous haulage, we unveiled this breakthrough in autonomous vehicular technology to a rapt audience at the 1996 MINExpo. Since then, we’ve become the industry leader with the largest autonomous fleet of haul trucks in the world.

Caterpillar has been developing remote-controlled solutions to improve safety and efficiency for decades. In 1968, we worked with a major steel producer to develop radio remote-controlled Cat 977K Track Loaders for safer slag removal.
